Redmond City Council Position 4
The only contested race this year is between Kim Allen and Sally Chen for position 4. Allen has a record both as a council member and as a hearing examiner. Neither is particularly good. Allen is bright and personable. She is a former trial lawyer and is generally more of a lawyer than an advocate for her constituents. She is often prickly and quite arrogant on the dais.
Allen has the support of two council members, as does Chen. Her recent mailer reads like the former mayor's little black book. While there are many reasons to defeat Allen her extreme views on property rights and her support for Jim Robinson's viciously anti-business campaign are enough to recommend that she not be re-elected.
Sally Chen is a breath of fresh air and will be a welcome addition to the council. Chen is young, intelligent and will bring the perspective of a new generation of voters to our city government. It's interesting that right now all but one council member, David Carson, are 50 plus years old. Redmond needs to encourage our younger citizens to fully engage in our city governance.
Chen is learning fast and has spent countless hours knocking on doors and talking to voters, business, and community leaders. There is a good chance that you've met her yourself when she knocked on your door as my neighbors and I have. If you haven't you probably will.
I like the energy and enthusiasm. I met the future at my door and that future for Redmond is Sally Chen.
Her website is www.sallyjchen.com. Check it out. She has a very, very impressive list of endorsements, including two current Redmond City Council members. So the challenger has as much support on the council as the incumbent! Chen also has the support of county council members and the Washington Attorney General amongst many others. That is very impressive.
I like Chen's intelligence, energy and passion for service and I like the fact that she brings the perspective of a whole new group of voters who are an increasingly important part of our community.
I'm going to vote for Sally Chen for Redmond City Council.

I've spoken to Sally Chen when she came to my neighborhood. She may be nice but she has no experience. None. This job is too important to hand over to a novice.
ReplyDeleteI could not agree more, Mark. Thanks for posting this. I too, had the pleasure of meeting with Sally Chen yesterday and think she would be a perfect addition to our city council..
ReplyDeleteSally will be a fresh voice on council. She has enthusiasm and energy and is smart. I think council has enough gray hair and could use a little new blood. One of the things I also like about Sally is she has shown herself as willing to listen to the voters. I'm convinced she will be a great addition to the council.
ReplyDeleteIf a candidate's experience was that important, McCain would be president. Sometimes people want fresh ideas and energy. Sally will bring both to the Redmond council.
ReplyDeleteI have worked with Sally Chen. She is smart, full of energy and a joy to work with. I'm voting for Sally Chen. Chuck Dermody, Retired Engineer, Redmond.
ReplyDeleteI met Sally six months ago at a lunch meeting held by Asian Weekly Foundation, and she has been such a great friend ever since. I believe Sally has the characteristics to be a successful council member for Redmond.
