Why Sally Chen
As campaigns drag on, I get tired of being buried in soundbites and everything descending into why you should NOT vote for the opponent.
When Sally Chen came to my door, I asked her to tell me what she will achieve on the council. Here is what I got:
1.She will make lines of communication more open between council and citizens. Her campaign is based on talking to people, one on one. Hearing their ideas and making judgments from that. I like the idea of a councilperson wanting to hear from people first.
2.Sally got rather passionate about being a servant to the people. She said that she will always make decisions based on the people of Redmond, not politics. One thing that is obvious about Sally is that she can stand on her own. It is impressive to see such a bright, caring person, stand up for what she believes in - for Redmond first!
i left my doorstep feeling like a positive change was coming to Redmond.

Today's forecast: 100% chance of "You gotta be kidding me!"
A couple of weeks ago, Kim Allen wrote an editorial in the Redmond Reporter saying that harsh weather conditions damaged Sally Chen’s yard signs. Well, I was intrigued by this and went out looking for damaged Chen signs to see if weather was responsible – it was not.
First off, Sally’s opponent, Mrs. Allen, made her arrant claim of weather damage on day 12 of 14 clear, dry, and wind free days.
I drove around and found a Chen sign that was ripped from the stake. There are 3 divots from where the screws go in, and then 3 narrow cuts going from the divots to the end of the sign. It looks like the stake was held in one hand and the sign in another and PULL!
I found another where the sign had been sliced off and another that was melted!
I am not suggesting that Mrs. Allen’s campaign is completely responsible for all the vandalism. I am just suggesting that Mrs. Allen not think Redmond voters are that stupid. An honorable, statesman-like way to handle the vandalism would have been if Mrs. Allen called for an end to the vandalism and pledged that her supporters will never touch one of Sally’s signs. But no, she blamed the weather, even going as far as to say that Sally is not familiar with hostile weather. Sally grew up in Georgia where their weather is quite extreme, so nice try Kim.
I am just having trouble believing Mrs. Allen’s explanations for the vandalism. I encourage Redmond to see her explanations for what they are – a weak excuse from someone with weak convictions.
